CONCEPT cars are the windows of the souls for automotive brands.
They reflect the intentions and desires of car brands that operate in a global environment. Many concept cars are beautiful interpretations that never quite make it onto the roads in meaningful numbers.
To be fair, many concept cars serve as test beds for new ideas and thinking that may be implemented in small doses in models that come off the assembly line eventually.
With that in mind, Audi’s House of Progress currently on at the ArtScience Museum @ Marina Bay showcases the fetching Grandsphere Concept that points towards the future look of cars (hopefully).
House of Progress is pushing Audi’s electric drive, with the Audi Q8 e-tron and Audi Q4 e-tron, due to enter the Singapore market, on show.
The stylish Grandsphere Concept car, however, is the clear show stopper.
It has an almost spindle-like form and comes with suicide doors that open up to let you into a world of space and refinement.
This level 4 autonomous vehicle is one step away from being fully autonomous. While there’s no steering wheel in sight there is one that could pop out when needed.
The dashboard is a moving showcase that presents information and entertainment when needed, or otherwise just look very attractive.
The seats are designed for comfort, especially on long drives; having drawn inspiration from the first class suites of premium airlines.
If the Grandsphere Concept’s rear design shows up on more Audi cars, that would certainly help the sales figures. The sharp angling and slim lights give it unmistakable presence.
But, what’s the likelihood of that?
If the upcoming Q8 and Q4 e-tron models are anything to go by, it’ll still be quite a while.
