Drumming Up The Car Biz At The Singapore Motorshow

U9

THE annual Singapore Motorshow is back, at SUNTEC Convention Centre, with a parade of sparkling new cars, tempting offers and bright lights.

At the back of everyone’s mind, however, is the nagging question: When will the certificate of entitlement prices come down?

Some distributors STORM-ASIA spoke to said they weren’t expecting to see COE prices to jump like this.

One of them reckoned it was due to the number of new Chinese electric vehicle brands being launched in the market.

COE Pains

Many of these EVs have relatively low open market values, so even with a higher COE, they can keep their prices competitive.

He surmised that some of these new brands may not be making money, so this exercise would then be a marketing effort to grow the brands visibility and establish their market share.

Of the 31 brands at the Motor Show, 12 are Chinese.

Otherwise, the usual brands are on show.

BMW has a double-storey area. The top level is accessible to customers, and here is where deals are closed without any distractions.

Most of the others have a single level to showcase their cars.

Pick Up a … err … Bargain?

New launches are, of course, de rigueur for a sales event like this. Virtually every brand at the show is launching a new model.

Highly polished cars sparkle and gleam for attention, with attractive “ambassadors” alongside the cars to make those social media posts that much more clickable.

Special offers like 5-year free servicing, or 10 years warranty for the EV battery are there for the asking, provided you ink the deal on the spot.

Singapore Motorshow 2025, SUNTEC Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre, Level 4 Tickets on sale at SISTIC at $10. Till 12 January 2025.
