The totally reengineered Porsche Panamera rolls into town for a short flying visit. With a sharper profile and a raft of enhancements, this sporty sedan will make its initial rounds of town tomorrow.
Three engine variants — V6 turbo, V8 turbo and V8 turbo diesel — will be available in the first quarter of 2017. A hybrid will come later. Speed is of the essence for the Panamera, especially at the top end of the range
Since its introduction in 2009, some 150,000 units have been sold worldwide. The success of the model has given Porsche more incentive to refine its lines and inject more technology that will deliver performance while reshaping its look to be closer to a 911.
This is a big car and this makeover presents an opportunity to deliver a sense of racy expectation even at standstill.
A rear spoiler that performs on command adds to the performance.
Luxury Within
The interior of the Panamera breaks new ground. Large dials, with the focus on the rev meter and a 12-inch touchscreen add a current look to the dashboard. The reduction of buttons reduces the clutter, and with air-con louvres that shut, provides a minimalist sleekness to the look.
Backseat occupants are also factored into the equation. Comfortable seats and a large screen lend to the top-drawer finish.
