HIS CELEBRITY photos have made Russel Wong a celebrity photographer in his own right, who has had all manner of famous people looking at his camera lens.
The relationship between subject and photographer often results in a perfectly captured image that shows off celebrities in the best light.
Jet Li, Chow Yuen Fatt, Cindy Crawford, Wynton Marsalis, Richard Gere, Michelle Yeoh, Glenn Close, Joan Chen, Imelda Marcos… the list does go on.
Besides people, Russel has also taken artistic shots of buildings, interiors, and has now embarked on photographing scenery and making films,
Of the celebrities he has photographed, the image that still brings a smile to his face is the shot of actor Jackie Chan for the cover of Time.
It proved particularly challenging with physical and natural elements conspiring to make the shot he wanted near impossible to take. But never say die is the motto for the determined photographer, and so he did bag the shot he was after — Jackie Chan seated in a director’s chair on busy Nathan Road in Hong Kong.
Russel is currently working on a book on geishas, a longterm project he has been working on.
And he has been patiently waiting to capture the perfect scenic shot.
