Symphony And Showtunes

Jazz and classical music forms strike a happy compromise with Broadway showtunes. By S. Sakthivel

Conductor Joshua Tan and jazz vocalist Rani Singam are collaborating to bring familiar favourites to the symphony at the latest Singapore Symphony Orchestra Pops Concert.

Drawing on fond musical memories from their youth, conductor Tan and jazz expressionist Singam, together with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, will be performing favourite songs from some perennial musicals like My Fair Lady, West Side Story and The Sound Of Music.

The duo chat with STORM about what these classics from their childhood mean to them, and how the magic of the orchestra will give the songs an exciting new twist.

SSO Pops: A Night On Broadway will be playing at the Esplanade Concert Hall on Friday, 29 July 2016 at 7.30pm. Tickets from $28 to $88 and are available at www.sistic.com.
