IN this WED WEB CHAT — The Golden Runway, panellists Dana Lam and Chong Huai Seng talk about how society — young and old — can interact with the elders in community.
Author, actress, artist and two-time President of AWARE, Dana asks if society is doing enough to understand the changes the elderly are going through. Art collector Huai Seng feels we can all pitch in and volunteer.
The notion of ‘retirement’ is something both panellists are unaccustomed to.
“You can’t retire from life,” points out Dana, who has been paying more attention to her art. She’s also written a book, The Art of Being a Grandmother: An Incomplete Diary of Becoming, published by Checkpoint Theatre.
Huai Seng is pleased that his hobby of collecting art has unwittingly become a niche business. Through the companies he has set up with his daughter — The Culture Story, Family Office for Art — he advices clients of how to manage their collections and what art to invest their money in.
He is also privy to the inner workings of an art scene that is growing in importance. While more money is flowing through the system, not all artists are happy. He talks about the Chinese artist Zhang Xiaogang who isn’t too pleased with the commissions he is receiving.
