Does The Government Listen?

WALKING a central path and providing fair commentary, while still taking a stand, has kept long-time journalist and editor PN Balji out of harm’s way.

He has always been careful to stick with the facts to ensure that he provides balanced commentary. As editor of The New Paper and TODAY he pushed any advantages he could think of to make the paper an editorial and commercial success.

But, even as the papers tried to provide advice and feedback to the system, it wasn’t often reciprocated, he reckons.

The system wasn’t keen on other’s views.

Balji is the subject of an upcoming book by another media man, Woon Tai Ho. Transition The Story Of PN Balji looks at the man and his role in media during Singapore’s formative years.
